The Berry Fairies of Alaska: Teresa Ascone

This is Teresa Ascone, and this passage is from my book The Berry Fairies of Alaska:

"Berry fairies can wield secret power over the SHILTAYEN - their word for human beings. Shiltayen "luck," coincidence and inspiration sometimes come from fairy influence. ... Some of the most admired [shiltayen fashion] designers in history owe their success to fairy spells. But [fairy] influence is not always a plus; berry fairy humor can result in shiltayen foolishness.

For instance, the stiff hoop skirts of the 1800s were an example of berry fairy fashion mischief. The 1960s trend of extra wide bell bottom trousers is known, in fairy lore, to have been a hilarious prank, played upon the shiltayen by the berry fairies."
